The San Francisco-based artist/songwriter is more than an underground success with many credits and accolades to her name. With five critically hailed independent releases on her own label, Longshot Records, Frenes continues to prove her marketability in a fickle industry. Her distinctive voice and songwriting prowess have garnered her massive critical acclaim and much respect within the industry, and the spotlight isn't unwarranted.
With a background in literature, Frenes' thoughtful songwritng is not the stuff for passive listeners. She tackles difficult subjects head-on, wrapping poetic lyrics in hooks and unforgettable melodies that linger in your brain. Hearkening influences from blue-eyed soul diva Annie Lennox to folk-popster Jonatha Brooke, Frenes' fresh, eclectic spin on acoustic melodic pop have won her a cross-demographic fan base. Frenes' five independent albums are diverse on the surface, but tied together by polished, professional songcraft.
Frenes has been a featured independent artist and her music played on CCM Radio Magazine, the Salem Radio Network, and XFM radio. Frenes' sunny, feel-good modern rockers Believe You and Force of Love are radio staples cementing Frenes' relationship with the MTV and VH-1 generation. Her reflective piano ballads Angel at My Shoulder and Picasso's Blues have earned awards such as Best Song in West Coast Songwriter's Association competitions.
Frenes' unique brand of melodic pop/rock songwriting has garnered her a favorite of the Contemporary Christian Music world's pop artistocracy. Margaret Becker, a Grammy and Dove award winning artist/songwriter/producer has led the pack. Becker was impressed with Frenes enough to showcase her work as a featured independent artist on her website, Maggieb.com. And later, signing Frenes to a publishing deal with her publishing company, Modern M. Music.
Frenes tours behind her albums feverishly. She's opened for many award winning artists including Grammy nominee, Kathy Troccoli (Billboard's Top Twenty Adult Contemporary Artist of the year (1992), Charlie Peacock, Out of the Grey, Margaret Becker, and Russ Lee, and has performed on television, at many high profile festivals, conferences, concert halls, coffeehouses and churches.
Frenes' work has also appeared on many motion picture soundtracks and her most recent song, Anything Is Possible, aired on the WB network show, Summerland. Several of her songs have aired on shows like CBS' Emmy Award winning series, The Young and The Restless. She has also contributed to EMI's Dove Award winning compilation, Heaven and Earth, released on Sparrow Records. She also landed the title track for Dove Award winner/Grammy Nominee, Sheila Walsh's Hope album. Several of Frenes' songs appear on compilations recorded for the best-selling National Women's conference, Women of Faith.
Beyond songwriting and performing, Frenes is an active representative of the international relief organization, World Vision, raising awareness for the work it does with impoverished children in over 100 countries. Her involvement is recognized by World Vision as on of their Top 20 Artist representatives effectively soliciting sponsorships for children in these countries.
Frenes continues to establish herself as one of the strongest and most resilient female voices in modern pop and adult contemporary music.
